A Cyberattack That Made 150 Countries Wanna Cry
Just like humans, computers are vulnerable to viruses. And computers are especially vulnerable to viruses when they’re not carefully tended to. Recently, over 200,000 computers in 150 countries were attacked with a computer virus named, “WannaCry.” “WannaCry” is a type of ransomware. In the case of “WannaCry,” files on computers around the world were locked down until the hackers were paid $300. Sounds like fiction, but it’s not. It turns out that the “WannaCry” virus was able to take advantage of people who were using an old Microsoft Windows operating system. Microsoft has since released a patch, but not before major businesses were affected by the virus.
Here are some good things to do to help prevent a virus from attacking your computer:
1) Don’t click on unfamiliar links
2) Install updates whenever they’re available
3) Backup your files
