Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday, and there are huge shopping deals on the following Friday, popularly known as Black Friday. But did you know about Giving Tuesday? In 2012, the idea of Giving Tuesday was started for one reason: to motivate people to be generous and kind. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people to donate to causes or organizations that help communities. In 2018 alone, $400 million was raised on Giving Tuesday. That’s a lot of giving! But why Tuesday and not Monday? Well, since 2005 or so, the Monday after Thanksgiving has another purpose. It’s known as Cyber Monday, when big online discounts entice shoppers to click away. So … since Monday is taken, Tuesday became the day of generosity instead.
In what ways have you been generous and kind to others?
