Maybe you’ve heard of Groundhog Day … or just seen the movie with
Bill Murray. Groundhog Day is an American tradition where people watch a groundhog pop out of his burrow (or hole). If the groundhog sees its shadow, that means there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t see his shadow? Then we’ll have an early spring. Groundhog Day is celebrated every year on February 2nd.
It’s a pretty silly tradition, when you think about it, but it’s been celebrated at a place called Gobbler’s Knob, in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, since 1887!
