Video Games At The Olympics?

November 2, 2018

“If only the Olympics included video games!”

Ever said that before? If you have, recent news might be encouraging. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is planning to discuss and explore the idea of including e-sports in the Olympic games.

The Olympics have historically included physical sports—activities that require strength, agility, and speed of the human body. However, the times are a-changing! With young viewers more and more interested in e-sports and games, the IOC wants to explore at least how and why it should include e-sports in the Olympics.

At the core of the challenge is not only figuring out if e-sports qualify but also how the committee will manage the sports and enforce rules. More importantly, what are e-sports? Are they any games you play on computers or devices?

If you were talking to the IOC, what would you say?
