Many people talk about equality, but some actually take steps to ensure equality is achieved. Take the case of the Football Association of Norway, whose men’s and women’s teams made history when they signed an agreement earlier this month.
What was the agreement about? Well, the agreement stated that teams will have equal pay for representing Norway in international sporting events. Is that such a big deal? Well, yes. You see, in many countries, men and women are paid differently for participating in the same sports. The historic agreement resulted in an increased salary of 2.5 million Kroners per year for the women’s team, which is nearly double their previous pay. The Football Association of Norway had previously not even recognized women football players until 1976. That is some progress!
