The “American Space Ninja” is Back!

September 16, 2017

Called the “American Space Ninja,” NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson finally made it back to Earth after a record 288 days in space—that’s over nine months—hanging out in the International Space Station. Her latest mission broke an American space record for the most number of days an astronaut has been in space.

She’s spectacular in other ways too. At fifty-seven, she’s the oldest female astronaut, is the third-most experienced space walker in the world, and has commanded the International Space Station twice!

When asked what she is most looking forward to doing back on Earth, she said flushing toilets. We don’t know about you, but that comment has definitely piqued our curiosity as to how toilets work in space!
