He was recruited by the Los Angeles Lakers when he was in high school because his dribbling, passing, throwing, and shooting skills put him in a league of his own. Kobe Bryant was a legend throughout his twenty-year NBA career. Few people, however, knew about his talents off the court. After Bryant retired from professional basketball in 2016, he went on to win an Oscar in 2018 for “Dear Basketball,” an animated short that he wrote and narrated. He later wrote and published several books, and became a savvy investor, investing in companies such as Epic Games (the creator of Fortnite), Body Armor, a sports drink company, and The Honest Company. Needless to say, Kobe Bryant proved himself to be more than just a basketball star.
On January 26th, Bryant, along with eight other people including his daughter Gianna Bryant, died when their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California. The news of his death shocked the world. Basketball fans mourned the loss of one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. Celebrities took to social media to share their shock and condolences, and the entire NBA family paid tribute to the all-star. Bryant was only forty-one years old. He is survived by his wife and three other daughters. Rest in peace, Kobe.
