The year was 2004 … the Boston Red Sox made it to the World Series again. It was a very exciting time indeed, but fans around the world couldn’t help thinking: Would they actually win the World Series? After all, despite the fact that they had made it to the World Series four times before, they had not been able to clinch a World Series title since 1918—ouch, we know! So heading into the 2004 World Series, baseball fans around the world couldn’t help but think if this was the year that the Boston Red Sox would finally break their eighty-six-year-old curse. Now, we know many of you were probably quite young at the time, and some of you … well … might not even have been born yet, so we’re going to tell you what happened. Not only did the Red Sox break their curse that year, but they did it by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals—that’s winning four games in a row! We don’t know about you, but it seems like that curse is a thing of the past, because since that 2004 World Series win, the Red Sox have won three more World Series titles. You heard that right—three more titles! It took the Red Sox five games to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in this year’s World Series—including an eighteen-inning game three that lasted a record-breaking seven hours and twenty minutes! Curse? What curse? Congratulations to the Red Sox!
