People Protest the Police

September 11, 2016

In the first presidential debate, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were asked how they would address growing problems with police and certain communities. But why were they asked that question?

There have been several protests in the state of North Carolina over an incident where a police officer killed an African-American man named Keith Lamont Scott — an incident that protesters think was unnecessary. While some protests have been peaceful, others have turned violent.

Over the past year, protests like the one in Charlotte have erupted throughout the United States as a result of questionable police behavior towards the African- American community. Protesters question whether these police shootings were a result of racial discrimination or in response to a criminal activity. With each incident, protests have gotten louder, and the lives of both police and protesters have been endangered.
