Breaking Records: Music

September 11, 2020

Here at Xyza, we often share stories about world records. Why? Because they’re interesting and fun! So follow along each week as we share some cool (and quirky!) record-breaking events. First up? Music!

You might be more familiar with hip-hop and rap artist Drake than singer-songwriter Madonna, but if you ask your parents, “Do you know who Madonna is?” their answer will most likely be, “Of course!” That’s because Madonna (similar to Beyoncé and other artists who go by their first names only) was a pop icon of the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. She’s often referred to as the “Queen of Pop” for the many, many hit pop singles that she wrote, recorded, and performed live. But even a queen is sometimes dethroned. Earlier this year, Drake broke the record for the most top ten singles ever received by an artist in the history of the US Billboard chart—a title that was held by Madonna since 2008. How many top ten singles does Drake have now? Forty—that’s two more than the Queen of Pop! All hail Drake, the King of Hip-Hop? Has a good ring to it, doesn’t it?
