Ever been around a buzzing bee and think … what a pest!? Well, pest or not, bees play an extremely important role in our ecosystem and ultimately in global sustainability efforts. How? Bees are pollinators, collecting nectar and pollen from the stamen of one flower and transferring it to another flower. By pollinating these flowers, bees assist in the fertilization process and help fruit grow. It’s the birds and the bees (get it!) that make this fertilization process happen. Can you imagine if these buzzing insects disappeared? What would happen to our ecosystem? That’s why, after years of effort from the Slovenian government and other international governments, the UN declared May 20th as World Bee Day in 2017.
