The leaves are turning colors, the air is just a bit nippier, and every which way you turn, there are pumpkins adorning houses around the neighborhood. It’s fall and if you’re as big of a fan of this season as we are here at Xyza, you’re probably just as excited about things like who won this year’s title of the world’s biggest pumpkin! Didn’t know there was such a contest? Well, there is! It’s been forty-eight years since the first pumpkin was weighed at what is now the annual World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California.

Considered the Super Bowl of pumpkin weigh-offs, this year’s event was just as exciting as years past. One by one, the gourds were weighed with every grower hoping to beat the weight of the heaviest gourd. In the end, grower Jeff Uhlmeyer of Olympia, Washington, won first prize and took home $9 for every pound his gourd weighed. How much would that be? Uhlmeyer’s gourd weighed a hefty 2,191 pounds, which meant he took home $19,719 worth of prize money!
