Ever wonder what happens if a president suddenly passes away? The rules and policies are different for each country, but in Tanzania, the vice president assumes the role of president when such a tragedy occurs. Recently, the vice president of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, became president of Tanzania when her predecessor President John Magufuli suddenly passed away from heart failure. Her first task? To let the people of Tanzania know that their president had passed away and that she would be their new president. Talk about a difficult first day on the job, right? Definitely, but Hassan is an experienced politician who has been the right-hand lady to President Magufuli since 2015. As the first female head of state of Tanzania, all eyes are on her to see how she’ll lead the country. Will she be a “bulldozer” like her predecessor (that was his nickname!) or will she be Mama Samia (what she is affectionately and respectfully called by the people of Tanzania) and lead by bringing people together? We’ll just have to wait and see.
