Climb every mountain

Ford every stream

Follow every rainbow

‘Till you find your place

If you don’t recognize those song lyrics, they’re from the award-winning movie, The Sound of Music. This song plays as the family climbs one of the peaks of the Swiss Alps when they make it safely to Switzerland. Breathtaking, we know! Well, Mexican climber Viridiana Álvarez Chávez found her place at the top of the world both literally and figuratively when she climbed three of the world’s highest mountains in Guinness World Record-breaking time. How long did it take her? One year and 364 days—three days less than previous record-holder South Korean Go Mi-Sun’s record of two years and two days! Do you think she’s hanging up her carabiners and ice axe now that she’s broken a world record? Nah—it looks like breaking this record was just the beginning. Chávez is setting her sights on another achievement: climbing the fourteen highest mountains in the world and being the first North American to do so. Go, Viridiana!
