Wondering why friends are posting a blank black image on their social media feeds today? Well, today is #blackouttuesday, an online movement to bring awareness to the injustices, police brutality, and systemic racism that African-Americans often face in society. While #blackouttuesday has shifted to social media sites such as Instagram, the movement was originally started by the music industry to protest racism and police brutality. Support #blackouttuesday? Great, just don’t use the #blacklivesmatter when posting that blank black image because it fills up the feed that would otherwise have important information about the Black Lives Matter movement.
