Junior Reporter Eva K. had an opportunity she just couldn’t pass up: to interview American journalist, news anchor, and Emmy award winner Dan Rather.
While she was nervous at first, she was also excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and asked some pretty thought-provoking questions (Go, Eva!). Read about how she got this opportunity, how she prepared for the interview, and what she learned from Mr. Rather. Great job, Eva!

Dan Rather Report
By Eva K.
I’ve met Dan Rather before because my dad has worked with him for a long time. He usually asks me questions like “How are you?” and “How is school?”
My dad just wrote a book with him, and now it was my turn to ask the questions.
I prepared for the interview by thinking of my questions ahead of time and wrote them down. I practiced my questions until I remembered them by heart. I also improvised because I didn’t prepare enough questions.
I was nervous at first, but I took three deep breaths and then relaxed. Mr. Rather was very nice. It was so much fun. I got to hold a microphone, and once I got started, I didn’t want the interview to end.
I learned that Mr. Rather likes to report because he is curious. He said that reporting has a sense of adventure and that when it’s done well, it is a public service. I also learned that he started reporting when he was in fourth grade. I’m in fourth grade and this is my first report!
I like reporting too because I have fun asking questions.

Mr. Rather’s team also filmed the interview! Thanks to Greg Kaplan and the rest of Mr. Rather’s team for sharing this video of Eva’s interview. Check it out!
