You must have had a dumpling!
Dumplings are traditionally eaten on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Dumplings represent good luck and good fortune and the shape resembles money that was used a long time ago. Want to make your own dumplings? Grab an adult to help you make our fun and easy lucky dumpling recipe!
LUCKY DUMPLING RECIPE
1 pound of ground pork
1/2 cup chopped shrimp
1/2 cup of finely chopped Napa cabbage
2 stalks of green onions, minced 2 large slices of ginger, minced 5 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cooking wine
1 small cup of water
1 pack of dumpling wrappers
Step 1: In a large bowl, mix in all of the ingredients except for the water and dumpling wrappers.
Step 2: Once the ingredients have been combined, take a large teaspoon of
the filling and put it in the center of a dumpling wrapper.
Step 3: Using your finger, paint the edge of the entire wrapper with water. Then fold it in half and press on the edges so that the wrapper is sealed (there are no holes and you can’t see the filling!)
Step 4: Boil a pot of water. Add the dumplings into the water. Boil for 7-8 minutes and then take them out with a strainer.
Step 5: Take a bite of your good luck dumpling and have a wonderful and prosperous New Year of the monkey!
