Farewell, Barbara

April 27, 2018

On April 17th, former First Lady Barbara Bush passed away. She was ninety-two years old. Former US Presidents and First Ladies, as well as First Lady Melania Trump, attended the funeral earlier this week to pay their respects to a woman who was known as the Matriarch of the Republican Party. She was well loved by many. Here are just a few reasons why:

1) She fought for literacy during and after the time that she was First Lady of the United States. After leaving the White House, she and George H.W. Bush raised over a billion dollars for literacy and cancer research.

2) She lived to see both her husband and her son elected as President of the United States.

3) She was outspoken and sometimes even clashed with her own political party.

4) Besides being First Lady, she was also a writer—she even wrote a book about the Bush family dog titled C. Fred’s Story.

Thank you, Mrs. Bush. You will be missed.
