Did you know that it was fifty years ago that the first Earth Day celebration took place in the United States? That’s right! On April 22nd, 1970, approximately 20 million people across the United States participated in marches and teach-in events to mark the first-ever Earth Day. Fifty years later and Earth Day is still going strong with approximately a billion people participating in events around the world each year. While this year’s events may look slightly different from those in years past (many countries are in lockdown to fight the nasty COVID-19, after all!), virtual events are still taking place. From video teach-ins to virtual live performances, there’s something for everyone! Check out what’s happening near you by visiting www.earthday.org.
