She’s just over four feet tall, but her presence at Manhattan’s Bowling Green has caused quite a splash (and a stir!). We’re talking about the Fearless Girl statue, who has been staring down the iconic Charging Bull statue with confidence and defiance over the past year since it was installed on March 7th, 2017 in recognition of International Women’s Day. Fearless Girl has been a symbol of women empowerment and the fight for equality in the workplace—especially in the male-dominated finance industry. While millions of locals and tourists alike have stood by the little girl for what she represents (and to take pictures, of course!), many have also criticized the company behind the statue for being part of the problem. Arturo Di Modica, the artist behind the Charging Bull statue, has criticized the statue for changing the meaning of his statue from one of prosperity to one of greed. Arguments aside, Fearless Girl was never meant to be a permanent installation. She was originally supposed to be at Manhattan’s Bowling Green for just a few days. Well, a few days became a year, and now it seems she will become a permanent art installation in New York City—just not on Manhattan’s Bowling Green. Her new and permanent home will be outside of New York’s Stock Exchange, staring at the building, serving as a daily reminder of the importance of women’s equality. You go, girl!

Have you seen the Fearless Girl statue? What does she mean to you?
