What Makes a Superhero?

Yes, but they might not be the type who wear capes and masks and leap over tall buildings. In fact, many heroes are people like you and me—they come in all shapes, sizes, genders, and ethnicities—and they don’t look a thing like those caped crusaders.

It was a typical summer day at Panama City Beach, Florida. People were enjoying the warm sand and cool water when suddenly a family was spotted in the water, struggling from being swept away by a riptide. Riptides occur suddenly, so the currents caught the family off guard. When beachgoers realized that this family needed help, eighty complete strangers quickly formed a human chain to pull the people to safety. So if you’re ever wondering, “Are there heroes among us?” … the answer is a definite yes!
