But not in a swimsuit! That’s right, Miss America, a beauty pageant that’s been around for almost a hundred years, recently announced that the swimsuit competition will no longer be part of the pageant. Why? According to the new chairwoman of Miss America’s board of directors and former Miss America, Gretchen Carlson, people are more interested in how competitors are going to change the world rather than how they look in a swimsuit. It’s a big change that came less than two months after an entire female team replaced several male executives who had been making disrespectful comments about former Miss America winners. Will this year’s competition be any different? Ms. Carlson says there are more changes ahead, so we’ll just have to wait and see if these changes really highlight a competitor’s overall impact instead of her physical beauty.

If you were a judge in the Miss America pageant, how would you judge the contestants?
