What do you have to do to become a billionaire? Well, you might want to ask hip-hop artist, producer, writer, and entrepreneur Jay-Z because Forbes, a magazine focused on business and financial news, just named him the first male hip-hop artist to join that exclusive billionaires club. But if you think he made all of his money with music, you might want to think again. Yes, Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Corey Carter) is a world-renowned artist, but he also owns his own record label (or a company that produces and promotes music for its artists), clothing line, and beverage company, and invests in art, real estate, and businesses like Uber. Yeah, you could say he’s a pretty sharp businessman. But why is Jay-Z becoming a billionaire news? Well, there aren’t that many billionaires in the world—only 2,208 in 2018, but what makes Jay-Z different is that he didn’t come from money. In fact, he grew up in a tough neighborhood with very little money. To a lot of people in the world, Jay-Z has become a symbol of what’s possible, that even a kid from the streets can achieve the biggest dreams.
