Leaders from North Korea participated in day-long discussions this week with leaders from South Korea and boy did they have a lot to discuss! Even though they are neighbors, the two countries have very divided political views. These were, in fact, their first discussions in more than two years. While many people expected these talks to be about North Korea’s nuclear weapons, leaders from both countries talked about many other items, including their militaries, reuniting families separated by their common border, aid, and tourism. Another big item on the agenda?
North Korea’s decision to participate in the Winter Olympics in February, which will be held in South Korea. Hosting what they call the “Peace Olympics” in the city of Pyeongchang, South Korea is thrilled with the decision. And what about the nuclear weapons that North Korea recently tested? Well, officials from North Korea assured their neighbors to the south that the missiles were not intended for them.
