“Buzz the Bee” Goes Missing!

March 5, 2017

WHAT HAPPENED: Last month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service added the bumblebee to their endangered species list.

NOW WHAT: The rapid disappearance of bees is a serious problem. Bees play an important role in growing plants and fruits. Recently, Honey Nut Cheerios cereal-maker, General Mills, took their beloved mascot, “Buzz the Bee” off of their cereal boxes. In his place are the words, “Help bring back the bees.” Why? To call attention to the declining bee population and how important they are to us. And what is General Mills doing to help bees? They’re putting a pack of wild flower seeds in every box of cereal, so that we can plant them for bees to pollinate.

After all, bee experts believe that loss of habitat might be one of the reasons why bees are quickly disappearing.
