A Sit-in to Stand Up

July 11, 2016

What do you do when you want to ask your parents for something and it’s really REALLY important that you get it? Would you wave your hands around to get their attention? Would you come up with a list reasons for why you have to get that something? What if nothing you did worked? What would you do? Well, if you’re Representative John Lewis, you’d stage a sit-in. On June 22nd, Representative John Lewis and dozens of his fellow colleagues of the Democratic Party staged a sit-in by taking over the Senate floor and refusing to leave until there was a vote on gun control measures. The sit-in ended 25 hours later without a confirmation of a vote, but it did lead to a lot of attention on the topic of gun control.
