A Retailer Goes Offline?

October 13, 2017

When you’re looking for the latest toy or the trendiest clothes, where do you go? If you ask your parents where they went when they were kids, they’d probably say the mall. But nowadays, kids and parents alike are turning more and more to online stores as their go-to (or preferred) place to shop. Just take a look around your local mall. Have any of your favorite stores shut down? However, one company is doing the exact opposite.

Starbucks, known for coffee and other delightful drinks, has actually decided to shut down their online store and keep their physical stores open. Yep, loyal Starbucks customers will no longer be able to purchase Starbucks mugs, shirts, coffee makers, coffee, and other goodies on the company’s online store. Why?

According to a Starbucks spokesperson, they’re discontinuing their online efforts in order to “invest in amplifying Starbucks as a must-visit destination.” In other words, they’re focusing efforts on making the visit to a physical Starbucks store a “can’t-miss” place to go for coffee. But all is not lost for customers who still prefer to purchase Starbucks products online—Starbucks will continue to partner with large online marketplaces such as Amazon.com to sell their much-loved goodies. Phew!
